Dialogue for Doctor and Hospital Visits

This video covers dialogue for a doctor and  hospital visit. The first part covered illnesses and this video covers the types of questions a doctor and patient would ask one another. Hurt or hurting translates to “fè mal”. So if something is hurting it’s ok to name the body part and just add “fè mal”. Here is a link to the video where we covered body parts in Haitian Creole.

How are you feeling? = Kijan ou santi ou?

What’s wrong? = Ki sa ou genyen? (Keep in mind “ki sa ou genyen translates to “what do you have?” but when something appears to be wrong it means what’s wrong?)

When did the pain start? = Ki lè doulè a te kòmanse?

Two days ago = De jou de sa

Since two days = Depi de jou

Yesterday = Yè

Do you have other symptoms? = Ou gen lot sentòm? Remember you can always add the word “èske” in front of the question but it’s not required.

Yes, I have a sore throat and a headache = Wi, mwen gen yon gòj fè mal ak yon maltèt (or you can say yon tèt fè mal for headache)

Let me take a look at your throat = Ban m gade nan gòj ou

Open your mouth please = Ouvri bouch ou tanpri (or you can say “silvouplè” for please)

Open your mouth please = Ouvè bouch ou tanpri

You have an infection = Ou gen yon enfeksyon

Your throat is infected = Gòj ou enfekte

I am going to give you a prescription for antibiotic = Mwen pral ba ou yon preskripsyon pou yon antibyotik

How often should I take it? = Konbyen fwa mwen ta dwe pran l?

Take one pill three times a day for ten days = Pran yon grenn twa fwa pa jou pou (pandan) dis jou

Now, I will listen to your heart and lungs = Kounye a, mwen pral tande kè ou ak poumon ou

Take a deep breath and hold = Pran yon gwo souf epi kenbe l

Breathe = Respire

Your blood pressure is ok (normal) = Tansyon ou nòmal

Your heart rate is ok (normal) = Batman kè ou nòmal

I would like to do an EKG = Mwen ta renmen fè yon Kadyogram

Rest and drink a lot of fluid = Repoze epi bwè anpil likid

Call if you are not better in three days = Rele si ou pa santi ou byen nan twa jou

Come back if you get worse = Retounen si ou vin pi mal
