This video covers dialogue for a doctor and hospital visit. The first part covered illnesses and this video covers the types of questions a doctor and patient would ask one another. Hurt or hurting translates to “fè mal”. So if something is hurting it’s ok to name the body part and just add “fè mal”. Here is a link to the video where we covered body parts in Haitian Creole.
How are you feeling? = Kijan ou santi ou?
What’s wrong? = Ki sa ou genyen? (Keep in mind “ki sa ou genyen translates to “what do you have?” but when something appears to be wrong it means what’s wrong?)
I have chest pain = Mwen gen lestomak fè mal
When did the pain start? = Ki lè doulè a te kòmanse?
Two days ago = De jou de sa
Since two days = Depi de jou
Yesterday = Yè
Do you have other symptoms? = Ou gen lot sentòm? Remember you can always add the word “èske” in front of the question but it’s not required.
Yes, I have a sore throat and a headache = Wi, mwen gen yon gòj fè mal ak yon maltèt (or you can say yon tèt fè mal for headache)
Let me take a look at your throat = Ban m gade nan gòj ou
Open your mouth please = Ouvri bouch ou tanpri (or you can say “silvouplè” for please)
Open your mouth please = Ouvè bouch ou tanpri
You have an infection = Ou gen yon enfeksyon
Your throat is infected = Gòj ou enfekte
I am going to give you a prescription for antibiotic = Mwen pral ba ou yon preskripsyon pou yon antibyotik
How often should I take it? = Konbyen fwa mwen ta dwe pran l?
Take one pill three times a day for ten days = Pran yon grenn twa fwa pa jou pou (pandan) dis jou
Now, I will listen to your heart and lungs = Kounye a, mwen pral tande kè ou ak poumon ou
Take a deep breath and hold = Pran yon gwo souf epi kenbe l
Breathe = Respire
Your blood pressure is ok (normal) = Tansyon ou nòmal
Your heart rate is ok (normal) = Batman kè ou nòmal
I would like to do an EKG = Mwen ta renmen fè yon Kadyogram
Rest and drink a lot of fluid = Repoze epi bwè anpil likid
Call if you are not better in three days = Rele si ou pa santi ou byen nan twa jou
Come back if you get worse = Retounen si ou vin pi mal
Come back or return if you get worse = Tounen si ou vin pi mal
Thanks or thank you doctor = Mèsi doktè
